Microsoft Ads Consulting

Often overlooked, Microsoft Ads can deliver valuable brand awareness and conversions. I tailor Google campaign learnings to the platform’s nuances, to drive incremental growth.

Is investing in Microsoft Ads worth it? Will I get a decent ROAS?

A common question I get asked and the short answer is; it depends of a variety of factors.

In my experience it is worth the investment for certain industries or sectors. I have found it to perform well for most B2B sectors and select B2C sectors. I recommend starting with Google Ads first and leveraging your data there to test Microsoft Ads.

How can I help?

Microsoft Ads Strategy

This often goes hand in hand with an audit, if you do not have one in place already. I will partner with your team to create a Microsoft Ads strategy that either I execute or your team can manage with my assistance.

Microsoft Ads Audits

If you need a fresh perspective on your Microsoft Ads accounts, I will work with your team to audit your existing setup and provide both feedback and training on improvements to be made.

Consent & Measurement

Microsoft Ads has a different consent mode to that of Google Ads, which you are required to setup for all markets. I work with and have broad experience in the successful implementation their consent tagging and related CMPs within UK, US and European markets. Getting your measurement foundations correct is critical to your success – whether I am partnering with you on an ongoing basis or a one off project, I will work with your team to configure everything required from enhanced conversions to offline conversion imports.

Conversion & Data Management

Whether you are an e-commerce brand that requires a more complex setup with user or transactional data, or a B2B brand who needs to needs to sync their offline data in a CRM like Salesforce with Microsoft Ads, I have experience in all areas when it comes to joining the dots between data in your internal systems and Microsoft Ads.

Microsoft Ads Management & Optimisation

I commonly provide full Microsoft Ads account management to the teams I partner with, from setup, optimisation to monthly reporting and meetings to discussion performance.

Shopping & Feed Optimisation

If you are an ecommerce brand I will either help you setup Microsoft’s shopping campaigns or optimise them for the best ROAs we can achieve.

Creative Assets

If we utilise certain campaign types like PMAX, video or display, in our agreed strategy, I will support your team in the creation and development of these assets.

Microsoft Ads Training

I coach individuals and train teams to build skills and confidence with all aspects of Microsoft Ads.

Sectors I have experience in:

With over 25 years experience, I have worked in a wide variety of sectors and related industries – more recently in the following:

Consumer Retail & Ecommerce

I’ve grown revenue through new customer acquisition in high street stores and online. Examples during my career include Tesco, Neptune Furniture and owning, growing and selling Kids’ Rooms — operator insight that still informs my work.

Hospitality & Travel

I’ve increased direct bookings and guest loyalty for boutique hotels, travel agents and tour operators. Examples during my career include The Pig Hotel and Serenity Holidays, where I focussed on the management of paid search channels.

Technology & Data

I’ve supported SaaS, data & analytics and RegTech businesses with customer acquisition and measurement. A recent example with SaaS brand, Zamzar, involved the adoption of paid search channels and upskilling their team in supporting Martech.

Real Estate & PropTech

I’ve helped commercial property & flexible workspace brands turn awareness into enquiries, viewings & revenue. Recent examples are EG Propertylink and BizSpace where I focused on positioning, paid search and measurement to support profitable outcomes.

Immersive & Creative Technology

I’ve helped immersive & creative technology firms build brand awareness and educate prospective clients. A recent example is Rock Paper Reality, where I shaped their positioning, optimised paid search channels and refined their measurement infrastructure.

B2B Services

I’ve helped brands specialised in B2B services improve their Martech expertise and grow their pipeline of qualified leads. Recent examples include paid search strategy & execution for startup Zero Tech Waste.

"Chris carried out a review of our PPC accounts and produced an excellent report with clear and concise recommendations to improve the performance of the accounts. We extended our relationship further asking Chris to implement the recommendations and take on the management of our Pay Per Click campaigns for a period of 6 months. Chris was great to work with, his straightforward and honest approach was thoroughly refreshing!"

Group Head of Marketing of Serenity Holidays

"I’ve worked with Chris for over three years at BizSpace. He’s been a strategic partner and a practical pair of hands as well. Chris built our measurement foundations: GA4 migration, GTM tagging and consent management - and then led the work that actually moved the dial: search and content strategy, digital PR, paid search and conversion improvements. If you need someone who will both shape strategy and deliver it, I highly recommend Chris."

Head of Marketing at BizSpace

"Working with Chris has been a fantastic experience - his attention to detail and knowledge within digital marketing is second to none. Being a newcomer to the space, we found it hard to find the right person to guide our company into a good place for support with our PPC campaigns - but Chris has given us a huge amount of understanding, context, and most importantly - results. I would recommend him - and already have!"

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have a minimum fee you charge for your Microsoft Ads services?

My pricing depends on a variety of factors – the scope, complexity and amount of input that is required. With Microsoft Ads, I work on a project or an ongoing retainer basis with clients. The best starting point is usually a conversation about your current challenges and goals, after which I can provide a clear, tailored proposal where I will outline the required investment and potential outcomes. Broadly speaking, my services relating to Microsoft Ads start from £1k per month or per project or retainer and up – this excludes media spend which you pay directly to Microsoft.

Do you have a media spend threshold, for Microsoft Ads, that I need to meet?

I do not manage Microsoft Ads media spend for my clients directly, rather this is managed between yourself and the platform in question. I therefore make no direct income from the amount you spend, so I don’t have a threshold from that perspective.

I do however have a recommended threshold of spend required to provide the very best chance an account is successful. Microsoft Ads succeeds based on the data they generate and are provided. With small media spend budgets this narrows your chances for success and in some cases I would recommend against an investment until you have a suitable budget. This figure depends on sector, industry and how competitive it may be – the best starting point is usually a conversation to discuss this and what is realistic.

What is your approach in working with my internal marketing team?

My approach is that I consider myself an extension of your team. For the majority of my clients, I work remotely for a large part of the month, but will then have a day or two working with their teams from their offices. While I am very hands on from an execution perspective, I am also very keen on upskilling your team and passing on my knowledge so they learn and grow as well.
